March 25, 2014

this is likely to be another one post week. My sister and nephew are coming for a visit. They live out in Washington state, and we do not see them often at all. So I do not plan to work much while they’re here. Mom and I are going to be taking them around to see my different siblings as well. It’s just going to be a crazy week.

The sister that is coming from out west is eleven years younger than I am. I have one sister who is two years younger than I am, but then there is this seven year gap between her and my brother. But once my brother came, we had five more to come. Babies have always been something I’ve loved, so I was excited any time Mom was going to have another baby.

Since everyone is grown up and most everyone has left the house, I love it when most everyone gets together. Yeah, it is loud and always kind of crazy, but it is always good too.

I’m sorry.. Don’t know what to say anymore. I’ve been slowly building how much time I’m working, and right now it’s about thirty hours a week. So I’m kind of too tired to think anymore…

Bogata Blessings

March 22, 2014

It is Saturday, and I’m tired. I’ve been working a lot lately, actually talking to a couple of people about trips. And I love it. I was given a book to review, and that’s what I am going to do today. The book is title “Bogata Blessings” by my friend E A West.

Mateo has lived in Columbia all his life. Like many, he was once a street child who turned to the rebels to survive. Even though he was rescued and now spends his life helping other street children, he still hates everything he was forced to do. He knows the Lord has forgiven him, but However, when Kayla comes to volunteer at Mateo’s mission, Mateo starts to wonder if God may have more for his life. But how could he ask this wonderful woman to share his life? Kayla’s family is from a well off family. Why would she want to leave that life to work with street children? Mateo learns to trust God even more with his life and his heart.

Family update

If you are friends with me on Facebook, you’ve probably heard about my Grandpa being in the hospital. We left on our trip to our friend’s wedding about a week ago… Grandpa has dementia and is always somewhat irritable. But things got worse when we left on this trip of ours. Grandpa was just arguing and yelling at people even more than usual. Honestly, I was happy that we were pretty busy with friends and getting ready for the wedding. We’d leave Grandma to take care of Grandpa, and we’d go do whatever we were doing… We had something of a blowup Sunday morning. My Aunt Cindy is a nurse, and Mom is keeping her informed on anything that is going on. By Monday morning, Cindy was saying that Grandpa probably needed to go get checked out.. It turns out that he has pneumonia. He’ll be in the hospital for several days, and then we’ll see where we go from there. Pray for wisdom for us please.

The other news, the better news, is that my sister who lives out west is going to come visit for her spring break. She is going to be here for a week, and I think Mom and I are going to go with her to visit both my sister and my brother for a couple of days each. I’m really not sure how much I am going to work with my sister in town. We’ll see.

Travel insurance, part #1

March 18, 2014

I am trying an experiment by starting to venture into the world of travel forums. This is all kind of new for me, having never really done much with forums before. But a good friend of mine said that joining forums might be a good way to meet some more clients. I’ve just joined a couple of forums this morning, so it’s too early to tell anything yet. But I’ll let you know how that goes.

I am going to be perfectly honest, my family travels to see family and friends. I’ve never been on a cruise. I know I’ve stayed at a really nice hotel once, the name of the hotel is not coming to me now, but that was a conference I was asked to be part of and everything was paid for. I’ve said all that to say that I don’t think my family has done anything with travel insurance, but as a travel agent I am going to need about insurance. So that is what we are going to look at.

Travel insurance is something that is good for travel agent to sell, because as I’ve mentioned before, we work on commissions, and insurance will of course add to the cost of the trip. But what’s in it for you, the client? Let’s take a look at this question.

You’re likely thinking, why on earth would I actually need travel insurance? Maybe you don’t take expensive trips, and if something unimaginable happened and you were not able to take your trip, losing that money wouldn’t be the end of the world. Maybe you have a credit card that will act as some type of travel insurance anyway. Or maybe since you are traveling in the United States, you think that your normal healthcare plan is going to cover any emergencies that you may have.. But no one really knows what might happen to us or to our loved ones.

my host agency, M Travel, works with Travel Guard as our insurance provider. Travel Guard covers everything you’ll pay in advance. It also covers my fees, so if anything did happen and you didn’t get to go, I’d still get my full commission, which is good to know.

I think I am going to need to break this training up. I’m going to continue this tomorrow.. But I would love to know if anyone has any travel disaster stories.

We are leaving first thing in the morning to go to a friend’s wedding. I’m not sure how much internet access I am going to have, and if I don’t have a lot of access I am going to have to work while I can, so I’m not sure whether I am going to write a second post this week.

I graduated in 1994… I’ve always loved big parties, and so we had a big party as my graduation celebration. I never went to high school, was homeschooled all the way through. But by this time, we had gotten into the church that I enjoyed so much, and I had a pretty good number of friends there in Tennessee. But there were also several out of town guests. I know my favorite aunt and her famiMy Aunt Cindy’s husband was into politics at that time, so he gave a little speech at the beginning of my party.. Don’t remember what he talked about. But anyway.. Mom made all kinds of good things to eat for that night.

I also remember having a lot of gifts to write thank you notes to. Writing thank you notes to anyone that was engrained in us from the time we were very small. That took me a long time to complete.

I’ve always loved holidays.. And I love holidays where we have traditions. Christmas we were usually with grandparents.. But a lot of Easter Sundays growing up we used to spend with friends in franklin with dear friends… There was this one family we used to hang out with a lot, they lived on a mountain, and everyone we knew called their house “the big house”.

The Easters I remember most were the times we would to stay at the big house the whole Easter weekend. I don’t remember much about the Friday or Saturday before. But these were some of our best friends and it was so fun to just have time together.

Early Easter morning, we would get up and go on top of another mountain to join in our church’s sunrise service. I remember those mornings as being freezing. I usually sat in the car. But watching the sunrise was always fun. It was always so beautiful.. We’d go home to the big house for a nice breakfast. And then we’d go back to church. And to me it was special celebrating the resurrection where I became a believer… After church there was another big meal and more enjoying friends.

Eleven children

March 4, 2014

I’m spending more and more time working, there is just a lot I’m trying to get done. I’m tired, but I don’t think I should put this off. I’m trying to keep this up, but don’t know what to write about. I have books to review, but no time I feel like I can just read.

I’ve blogged about going out West so Mom and I could be with my sister during the birth of her son. But I haven’t written about going to have Sunday dinner with the doctor who delivered the baby.. The doctor has eleven children of his own.. I don’t know why this impressed my as much as it did seeing that I’m the oldest of eight children. But I felt like we were going to spend time with the Duggar family.

I loved that afternoon. We ordered pizza, but the table was set very nicely.. And my memory of that afternoon is just sweet. For having eleven children, the house never got loud. The mother homeschools all her children, and I know they had very specific rules about how everything was done. I really enjoyed getting to know that family.

My weeks seem to get busier and busier with work. Starting my travel agent blog is keeping me busy. But I am thoroughly enjoying every aspect of my job. My new blog is Please feel free to follow that blog, and comment on it! ;]

Two weeks from today, I don’t think I am going to be working though. Some of my parents’ best friends have a daughter who is about to get married. We will be at her wedding in two weeks, and I’m looking forward to it.

Our friends’ names are the Blanchats, and live in Hickory, NC. To be perfectly honest I have no idea how we first met them. I know my oldest, next to me, sister used to watch their oldest daughter. And sometimes I’d get to go with her, getting to eat fun snacks [desserts], and watch movies.

When we moved away from Hickory, we used to go back pretty often to visit, and we usually stayed with the Blanchats. I loved our visits there, still do. Their family and ours kind of grew up together. We’ve teased for years that someone from their family should marry someone from ours, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen.

This is their second daughter that is getting married. She’s marrying a soldier who was actually here for a class. So come to visit him, and she’ll sleep at our house. It’s been fun..
