Summer memories

May 24, 2019

Life has gotten busy, and I have no idea how busy the rest of our summer is going be. Don’t know how much I am going to get to do this in the near future, so I figured I would do this now.

Summer is here for a lot of children, so today I thought I would tell you about some things my siblings and I did during summer vacation.

  • We ended our school year with a school picnic. We would get a lot of ice cream sandwiches and things like that. I think sometimes we would also get hamburgers or something from a fast food place. We would go to a park and play. I
  • think our big is trip of the summer was going to my grandparents’ house for a week or so. Dad’s parents had a pool, and I’ve always loved to swim. I remember going on picnics in the mountains, and playing at their park.
  • A lot of summers, my sister and I would go to stay with my favorite aunt for a week. We would do a lot of swimming there too. I’d get to help prepare our menu. We would watch movies and play games. And the big finale was getting to go to to an amusement park.
  • As we got older, I got to do some summer camps too. Sometimes I would go to a camp for the disabled. Other times we would go to Christian camps.

I’m not sure if I am going to do this next week. We are have several things coming up, starting next weekend. And I’m looking forward to all the time with family and friends coming up. I’m not sure how much I am going to do this over the next several weeks.

But since this Sunday is the celebration of the Resurrection, let’s look at some memories I have of that time. For those that don’t know, when I was young, we used to move around every five years or so. I was about four when we moved to a beautiful town in the mountains. And when we moved away from there five years later, I remember returning to this town several years for this weekend of celebration.

Sometimes we would gather with Christian friends to celebrate the Passover meal together Thursday evening. I know sometimes we were just learning about the celebration. But sometimes we actually did the whole meal together, and I loved those dinners together. I don’t remember going to any Good Friday services growing up. Though that is something we do at the church I am part of now.

But Sunday mornings, having sunrise services on that cold mountain top, who could forget? We would get up while it was still dark, and we would again meet with other Christians to celebrate that indeed Christ is risen from the dead. We would go to church and keep celebrating. And then the afternoons were huge dinners with friends.

Grateful again

April 12, 2019

I’ve been thinking about some different things I am grateful for lately, and I’ve decided to share those today.

  • First of all, I am extremely thankful for this communication device.I know I’m always saying that, but if it wasn’t for this I would not be able to do much of anything. When something goes wrong with it, there is not a lot I can do.
  • I’m grateful for the internet. Again that has opened up a world for me. It allows me to keep in touch with so many friends. It also allows me to work and take my class.
  • I’m grateful to live in the time that we do. I love being able to relax and watch a movie after working all day. I love being able to travel pretty much anywhere we want to go. I must confess that while I do love going outside for walks and things like that, I think I rather be inside. I like being comfortable.
  • I love that we get to be around my siblings and their families fairly often. It is typical for me to say good-bye to someone and know when our next gathering will be.
  • I love being part of the small group at church that I am. I have been with them about a year now, and I love this group of ladies.

And now I am going to do something a little different. To be honest, I read a lot of Christian fiction, and not much else.. And I must confess that I had a specific reason for reading this book, the author is my cousin. So I’ve been following what has been going on with this book since before it came out. I loved hearing more of the story of this man’s life. We get to go be with this man and all our family once a year, so reading this book gave me a better idea of their day to day lives.

In this book, he’s discussing habits that we should have as Christians. He is discussing things like praying and reading the bible before we start our busy to do lists, making time to build good friendships, and making ourselves take a sabbath. I love how personal he gets with his own rather being very careful to respect other people’s privacy

The book is called “The Common Rule”, and I highly recommend it.

I don’t remember doing much of this since I was a little girl, but I used to love to draw and paint.. I do not remember a time in my life when I did not have a pointer. When I was wanting to do art, someone would tape whatever I was working with onto my pointer, and I would draw whatever. I guess markers were the worst, because I could not change my own colors. But then again, I’ve always preferred dark colors. My favorite colors are pink and purple.

Anyway, I remember taking some different art classes while I was going through school. I know I did art with my special education class. I was in a normal class most of the time, but I would go do things like physical education and art with the special ed people.

I think I was in art classes with this one teacher while in school and on my own time. I’m pretty sure I would get money to take art classes for Christmas and my birthday.

Servant evangelism

March 21, 2019

In my class, we have been discussing ways we can intentionally share the gospel. And that has gotten me thinking about some different things we used to do as a church.

When we were first starting going to the church I am part of now, once a month we would go do a service project. I know we gave out pizza and stamps at the post office on April fifteenth. I think we would go to the park and hand out waters. We would go to a laundromat and give the people the money they needed to do their washing. At Christmas we would go to a store and wrap gifts.

Now we were not trying to get people to come to our church. We were just showing the love of the Lord. Those were random things we did.

We also put a skate park near our building and had a lot of young people come. I remember sometimes Mom would make pizza and take it out to the park. That was fun.

Now this one was not something I did personally. It was way too late. But a lot of my young adult friends helped put on breakfasts for people who were coming out of bars. They would make huge breakfasts around midnight and then sit and talk to whoever came in.

My faves

March 9, 2019

Today I want to talk about some of my favorite people, my nieces and nephews.

  • The first one is my niece Kailey. She is the one who made me an aunt in the first place. And there is something special about that. Kailey is thirteen, and likes to hang out with us adults as much as she can. She likes doing makeup and being on her phone. I may be prejudiced, but I think Kailey is someone most anyone just likes being around.
  • Her brother is Jedd, and he’s eleven. He’s kind and considerate. He’s willing to help me get from place to another in my wheelchair. Jedd enjoys cooking. He also likes playing on his phone and video games.
  • Mckenzie is next, she’s eleven too.. One of the things I’m enjoying is seeing Mckenzie and Kailey growing close. They seem to talk on the phone a lot.. Mckenzie likes to cook, she likes being a help.
  • Hunter is seven. He and his Mom live near Kailey and Jedd. So the three of them do a lot together. Hunter can be silly, but he can also be serious.
  • Madison is seven. I think she’s learning to enjoy reading. She’s always been very sweet to me. Madison is Mckenzie’s little sister.
  • Their baby brother is Elijah. He is about to be two. He’s a happy little guy.
  • Elliot is going to turn three this summer. He loves the “Toy Story” movies. He’s learning colors and colors and things like that.
  • His brother is Asa, and Asa will be two. He follows big brother around.

I know that a lot of people would disagree with me, but I love getting up early and getting things done. I must confess that sometimes I’m not feeling industrious, and end up not doing much until afternoon… I think sometimes I’m just tired, and sometimes I don’t feel like I have much time before lunch to start things.

But today Mom had to take my sister somewhere, so I got up early. I read my bible, which is what I always do first. I’m reading one book for my Sunday group, and one book for class. I do those things in the morning. That is why sometimes there is not much time before lunch.

This past week I had a longer assignment for this class I’m taking. I had already done most the work. I just needed to make sure my thoughts were written clearly. I’ve submitted my homework. Last week I tried to read my book for Sunday and do my classwork Friday and Saturday. That did not go well. Fridays and Saturdays I’m often pretty tired and not as able to think clearly. I’m feeling a lot better this week for sure.

Part of the homework for this class that I’m taking is to share our thoughts on one of the teachings with others. I figured that this is one of the best ways for me to do that.

My thoughts on the Church is small. I mostly pray for my own Christ Community and the ministries that I know well. And I think that satan is pleased with that. That is scary to think of. I’m trying to work on that.

I know, I agree wholeheartedly, that we all need to be one. How all that will happen I’m not sure.. Are we unified around the right things?? The big Church seems to be asking, “Are we conservative?” which means we believe certain things and seem to be pretty unaccepting of everyone that does our way of life. This is the camp find myself in. And then there is the liberal church that says, “We accept you no matter who you are or what you do.” I struggle with feeling like they are not on the narrow way. Living rightly seems pretty important in the bible.

I’ve taken just one example of the divisions we see still here. And that is only here in the States. Are we centered around Jesus? I’m not sure that we are.

I love to read. I think I was about three when I started learning to read. Reading has always been one of my Mom’s favorite things to teach, and when I was three, they were still asking themselves, “What all can this kid do?” I used to love to sit and read whenever I had the opportunity which meant that someone was willing to sit and turn pages. I think one of my most faithful turners was my grandma. I would sit and read for hours at her house. When I got on computers, there was a time I didn’t read much. The computer allowed me to do so much without help that reading was put on the back burner. The exception to that was when my siblings wanted to borrow my computer. They would turn while they played. But slowly I found ways to read on my computer.? I love being able to read whenever I want, however long I want. I do try to read after all my work is done.
